Because of its intimacy, children and adults alike are energized by the Birch Aquarium. Watch an octopus flow up and down the glass and try to catch a glimpse of his face, or see jellyfish moving slowly through the water.
The sea horse exhibit is the most popular at the Birch Aquarium. It features many species, from tiny miniature sea horses less than an inch tall to other-worldly leafy sea dragons.
Interactive exhibits at the Birch Aquarium teach the history of oceanography. A simulated trip in a deep water submersible reveals the wonders and oddities of the deep ocean, although it may move a little too slowly for smaller children. Kids of all ages seem to enjoy the Birch Aquarium exhibit illustrating how ocean products appear in every day items.
If you want to take photographs of the Birch Aquarium exhibits, be aware of reflections on the glass. Move in close (about a foot away) and set your flash at a 45 degree angle if you can. Don't get so carried away taking photos inside the Birch Aquarium that you miss the spectacular view outside.
